  • 4 cups warm water
  • 4 (1/4 ounce) packages dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 cup sunflower seeds (whole)
  • 1/2 cup safflower oil or 1/2 cup any good vegetable oil
  • 3/4 cup honey
  • 9 cups approximately whole wheat flour

  • 1 dissolve yeast in warm water using a whisk.
  • 2 add the rest of the ingredients--adding flour gradually till it forms a good kneading dough.
  • 3 put on floured board and knead this for about 10-15 minutes.
  • 4 put into a large oiled bowl.
  • 5 rise about 1-2 hours.
  • 6 punch down and rise again--about 1 hour or a little more.
  • 7 divide into thirds and place in three greased bread pans.
  • 8 rise again till doubled.
  • 9 325 degrees for about 60 minutes.
  • 10 these will not be too brown on the bottom because of the lower temperature; if you want them browner, take them out of the pans and put them on a cookie sheet and bake another 8-10 minutes (i never have to do this because i like them the way they are).
