Space Visitors

Ingredients

  • Servings: 12
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons nutmeg
  • 3 1/2 cups flour
  • 24 currants or 24 raisins
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 24 jelly beans

Recipe

  • 1 dissolve yeast in warm water.
  • 2 add eggs, shortening, sugar, salt, nutmeg and 1 3/4 c flour and beat 2 minutes on medium speed, scraping bowl frequently.
  • 3 mix enough remaining flour to make dough smooth, scraping sides well.
  • 4 cover and let rise in warm place until double (about 45 minutes).
  • 5 punch down dough and turn onto lightly floured board.
  • 6 divide dough into 24 equal parts. shape 12 parts into plump ovals about 4 inches long - this will be the bodies.
  • 7 with slightly more than half of each of the remaining parts shape 12 balls for the heads.
  • 8 with the remaining parts shape 12 4 inch ropes, and cut into half for arms.
  • 9 assemble figures and place about 3 inches apart on greased cookie sheet. press currants or raisins into heads for the eyes.
  • 10 let rise again until double (about 45 minutes)
  • 11 heat oven to 350.
  • 12 brush rolls lightly with beaten egg.
  • 13 bake 15 minutes or until golden.
  • 14 for antenna: insert toothpick for antenna and top with a jelly bean.
