Sugar Cookies With Icing

Ingredients

• 1/2 cup shortening
• 1 cup sugar
• 2 eggs
• 1 teaspoon vanilla
• 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
• 1 teaspoon baking powder
• 1/2 teaspoon salt
• 1/4 butter
• 2 tablespoons butter
• 1 (16 ounce) package powdered sugar
• 1/4 cup milk
• 1 teaspoon vanilla
• food coloring

Recipe

• 1 cream shortening; gradually add sugar, beating until fluffy.
• 2 add eggs and vanilla; mix well.
• 3 combine dry ingredients; add to creamed mixture, mixing well.
• 4 divide dough in half; wrap in wax paper, chill at least one hour.
• 5 roll half of dough to 1/4 inch thick on a lightly floured surface; keep remaining dough chilled. cut dough with a cookie cutter.
• 6 place on lightly greased cookie sheet; bake at 350 for 12 minutes or until edges are lightly browned.
• 7 cool on wire rack.
• 8 cream butter; graduallly add sugar, beating until blended. add milk and vanilla, mixing until smooth, stir in food coloring, if desired.
• 9 spread on cookies.
