Sugar Cookies With Icing

Ingredients
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 butter
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 (16 ounce) package powdered sugar
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- food coloring
Recipe
- 1 cream shortening; gradually add sugar, beating until fluffy.
- 2 add eggs and vanilla; mix well.
- 3 combine dry ingredients; add to creamed mixture, mixing well.
- 4 divide dough in half; wrap in wax paper, chill at least one hour.
- 5 roll half of dough to 1/4 inch thick on a lightly floured surface; keep remaining dough chilled. cut dough with a cookie cutter.
- 6 place on lightly greased cookie sheet; bake at 350 for 12 minutes or until edges are lightly browned.
- 7 cool on wire rack.
- 8 cream butter; graduallly add sugar, beating until blended. add milk and vanilla, mixing until smooth, stir in food coloring, if desired.
- 9 spread on cookies.
