Wheat Sweets

Total Time: 2 hrs 40 mins Preparation Time: 40 mins Cook Time: 2 hrs

Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour (graham)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 8 ounces butter
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 5 tablespoons water (add another tablespoon if needed)
  • 2 cups sifted powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla (add another 1/2 teaspoon if needed)
  • 2 tablespoons soft butter
  • 1 tablespoon milk (add another 2 tablespoons if needed)

Recipe

  • 1 combine both flours, salt and baking powder and reserve.
  • 2 in a separate bowl cream butter, sugar and vanilla.
  • 3 blend the reserved dry ingredients into the butter mixture using a fork or pastry blender.
  • 4 sprinkle the water over the mixture, stirring with a fork until the dough is moist enough to hold together.
  • 5 do not use more water than necessary.
  • 6 roll out to 1/8-inch thickness; cut with cookie cutters; place on greased baking sheets.
  • 7 bake in a pre-heated 350 degree oven 14 to 17 minutes.
  • 8 cool on racks.
  • 9 frost when cool.
  • 10 to make the frosting: combine the powdered sugar, vanilla and butter.
  • 11 blend in enough milk to reach desired consistency.
