Taffy Apples

Ingredients
- 8 small apples, clean and unblemished
- 2 cups sugar
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/8 teaspoon cream of tartar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter (cut into small pieces)
- 1 teaspoon vinegar
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- lollipop sticks or skewer
Recipe
- 1 grease a cookie sheet liberaly with butter.
- 2 push stick or skewers into apples.
- 3 in a large heavy sauce pan combine sugar and water.
- 4 cook over low heat and stir continuously until sugar dissloves.
- 5 add cream of tartar, butter, vinegar, and cream and cook stirring constantly, until mixture reaches soft crack stage or 290 degrees on a candy thermometer.
- 6 remove the pan from heat.
- 7 dip each apple into mixture and coat, then place on cookie sheet.
- 8 allow taffy to cool completely before serving.
- 9 may package with colorful plastic wrap and ribbon.
