Taffy Apples

Total Time: 30 mins Preparation Time: 10 mins Cook Time: 20 mins

Ingredients

  • 8 small apples, clean and unblemished
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/8 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (cut into small pieces)
  • 1 teaspoon vinegar
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • lollipop sticks or skewer

Recipe

  • 1 grease a cookie sheet liberaly with butter.
  • 2 push stick or skewers into apples.
  • 3 in a large heavy sauce pan combine sugar and water.
  • 4 cook over low heat and stir continuously until sugar dissloves.
  • 5 add cream of tartar, butter, vinegar, and cream and cook stirring constantly, until mixture reaches soft crack stage or 290 degrees on a candy thermometer.
  • 6 remove the pan from heat.
  • 7 dip each apple into mixture and coat, then place on cookie sheet.
  • 8 allow taffy to cool completely before serving.
  • 9 may package with colorful plastic wrap and ribbon.
