Sausage Bread

Total Time: 2 hrs 55 mins Preparation Time: 2 hrs 15 mins Cook Time: 40 mins

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup powdered milk
  • 2 (1/4 ounce) packages dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup cooking oil
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 1 lb sausage
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1/4 cup black olives, chopped
  • 1 (4 ounce) can mushroom pieces
  • 8 ounces cheddar cheese, grated
  • 1 jalapeno, chopped

Recipe

  • 1 to make dough:
  • 2 in blender, mix powdered milk, dry yeast, and warm water. let stand for 5 minutes. blend 20 seconds at medium speed.
  • 3 add to blender mixture, egg, salt, sugar and cooking oil. blend 10 seconds.
  • 4 in large bowl, sift 3 cups of flour.
  • 5 pour blender mixture into flour; stir. cover bowl and let rise for about 2 hours in warm place.
  • 6 for sausage filling: saute sausage and onion until done. drain and place in mixing bowl.
  • 7 add black olives, mushrooms, cheddar cheese and jalapeno. mix well.
  • 8 to make the bread: after dough has risen, turn onto lightly floured surface. flour to working consistency. divide bread dough into two equal sized pieces.
  • 9 place on floured work surface and roll each into oblong pieces.
  • 10 place half of sausage mixture on each piece of dough.
  • 11 fold ends in (about 1-2") and roll long sides to make a "jelly roll" with the dough and sausage mixture. pinch edges to seal.
  • 12 place on sprayed cookie sheet (or silpat), seam side down.
  • 13 allow to rise for 1 hour.
  • 14 bake for 30 - 45 minutes until brown.
