Chocolate Pecan Bars

Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
- 1 large egg, at room temperature
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup coarsely chopped toasted pecans
- 1 1/2 cups coarsely chopped chocolate
- 1/2 cup coarsely chopped toasted pecans
Recipe
- 1 to toast pecans, place them on a baking sheet in a 350° oven for 15 minutes or until lightly browned and fragrant.
- 2 preheat oven to 350°; grease and flour a 13x9 inch baking pan.
- 3 in a bowl, combine the flour and salt; set aside.
- 4 in another bowl, beat the butter, sugar, egg, and vanilla together until creamy.
- 5 add the dry ingredients and mix thoroughly; stir in pecans.
- 6 spread batter evenly in the prepared pan; bake for 25 minutes.
- 7 remove from oven and immediately sprinkle with chocolate on top.
- 8 let stand 5 minutes and then gently spread the melted chocolate in a thin later over the bars; sprinkle with the pecans.
- 9 let cool to room temperature (the chocolate should harden) or overnight before cutting and serving.
